Jiu-Jitsu

Confidence that comes from actually being able to do something. Classes split by age so a seven-year-old is never matched against a twelve-year-old.

Overview

What parents actually notice first

It usually is not the technique. It is that their kid starts looking people in the eye, handles losing without falling apart, and stops needing to be asked twice.

Jiu-jitsu is unusually good at this because it cannot be faked. A child either escaped the hold or they did not. That feedback is immediate, it is honest, and no amount of praise substitutes for it โ€” which is exactly why earning it means something.

We split classes by age. Our younger group runs 4.5 to 8, the older group 8 to 13. That matters more than it sounds: size and maturity gaps are where kids get hurt and where they lose interest.

The Curriculum

What we are really teaching

01

Self-Defense That Works

Real technique against a bigger opponent โ€” grounded in leverage, not aggression. The skill most likely to matter and least likely to be needed.

02

Discipline

Bow on, shoes off, listen the first time. Small structures, held consistently, that carry into the classroom and home.

03

Losing Well

Every child gets tapped. Learning to reset and go again is the most transferable thing on the mat.

04

Anti-Bullying Without Aggression

Control is the goal, not damage. Confident children are rarely targeted, and children who can defend themselves rarely need to.

Getting Started

Your child's first class

1

Book a free class

Pick a time that suits the age group. No card required, no obligation.

2

Arrive 15 minutes early

You will sign the waiver and meet the instructor. Your child needs a t-shirt and shorts or leggings โ€” no zips, buttons, or pockets โ€” and bare feet on the mat.

3

Watch from the seating area

Parents stay off the mat and let the coaches coach. It is a small thing that makes an enormous difference to how quickly children settle.

4

Talk about it in the car

Ask what they learned, not whether they won. The second question teaches the wrong lesson early.

Common Questions

Before you come in

Is 4.5 really old enough?

For our youngest group, yes. Those classes are built around movement, listening, and games with a technical core โ€” not a shrunken adult class.

My child is shy and not sporty.

Those are often the children who benefit most. Jiu-jitsu has no bench, no being picked last, and no requirement to be fast or tall.

Will they learn to fight?

They will learn to control a situation without striking. That is the opposite of teaching a child to fight, and it is why jiu-jitsu is the martial art most often recommended for children who are being bullied.

What if they do not like it?

The first class is free and there is no obligation. Give it three classes if you can โ€” most children decide somewhere in the second.

Do you do homeschool scheduling?

Yes. We run homeschool programs and accept Step Up For Students scholarship funding.
